debate

Fast food should be banned in Malaysia.
First speaker (proposition)

Good afternoon to the chairperson, most wise and honorable judge, my most worthy opponents, ladies and gentlemen.

We, the affirmatives are here today to move the motion that ‘Fast food should be banned in Malaysia’.

Before I go any further, let me define the meaning of today’s motion. According to the Oxford’s Dictionary 2nd Edition 2002, ‘Fast food’ means food, for example, hamburgers and chips that can be cooked easily. ‘Banned’ means forbid, or orders that forbid something and Malaysia refers to our country.

Ladies and gentlemen,
We, the affirmatives will prove to you why “fast food should be banned in Malaysia”. I will tell you about the health problems caused by fast food consumption. My second speaker will tell you about the economic problems caused by rise of fast food restaurants.

Ladies and gentlemen,
Fast food’s middle name is health problem. Do you agree with me? As we all have commonly known, fast food is a menace to human’s health. Obesity, heart failure, liver malfunction, kidney problems, you name it. Nearly all books and documentaries that have come out in recent years showing how bad fast food is mostly focuses on it's high fat/ high sodium content. These chemical elements created by the scientists to replace natural flavors resulted in health menace such as kidney problems. Our kidney might not be able to function as it supposed to be which is, to filter chemical substances from our bodies. Thus, the chemical substances will affect our body and bring harm to our health.

Ladies and gentlemen,
Health problems brought by fast food have been long discussed. Numerous tests and experiments have been carried out and it has been proven that fast food does bring health problems. The question here is, do we want to destroy our own body while there’s a lot more healthy and fresh foods around us? Think about it. Maybe it’s time for us to forbid fast food from making its defeat on our future generation. Enough is enough. We have to train our children before it is too late. By banning the continuation of fast food in Malaysia, we can prevent our children from being exposed to such foods. If they’re not exposed to fast foods and being taught about the negative effect of it, I believe they won’t be addicted to fast food and thus, their health can be made safe. Bear in mind, fast food should not become a major obsession in our nation.

Ladies and gentlemen,
What more proof can I give to you? I can go on and on but I think my worthy opponents, and the wise and learned judges are convinced that ‘Fast food should be banned in Malaysia. Health must be our first priority, never let a junk like fast food be the reason of our grief in the future. Be informed and conscious of your own health, my respectable opponents. Thank you.
